What’s Nearby (A Short Walk)

The private beach, called the Moniach (Gaelic for “peat”) is no ordinary beach. Take a walk along the beach towards the Red Cape — that’s the spectacular land mass you see jutting into the ocean, and you will come to the mouth of the Grand River, a sanctuary for many species of bird, including terns, ducks, the Great Blue Heron and bald eagle.

You can walk down the end of our long driveway and across the road to the canoe at the edge of the river, then explore the tiny islands on the river, or just go for a paddle at sunset. You can also explore the wilderness without driving to it! Right outside the door, past the well, there’s a little path in the woods — it’s barely traveled except by deer and rabbits.
